Edo Election: Sheriff not in support of PDP’s rejection of result.

Edo Election: Sheriff not in support of PDP’s rejection of result

Source: Daily Post

Disputed National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, said he did not support Thursday’s rejection of the yet-to-be-declared result of Wednesday’s governorship election in Edo.
He said that the rejection of the result ahead of its declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was pre-emptive.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that PDP in Edo, at a news conference in Benin, announced its rejection of the result of the governorship poll.

Chairman of the party in the state, Chief Dan Orbih, who addressed the media, alleged that the outcome of the exercise had been pre-determined by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, at the time of the news conference, collation of results of the election was ongoing at INEC secretariat in Benin.

Speaking on behalf of Sheriff, Deputy National Chairman of his faction of the party, Dr Cairo Ojougboh, said, “we will await the final announcement of the result, consult widely before making our decision public”.

He said the national leadership was concerned about issues arising from the election, and called for restraint from members and supporters.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Dayo Adeyeye, had in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday warned that the party would reject the result of the government poll if the antics of APC continued.

He accused the Edo Government of sponsoring massive irregularities in the election.

The opposition party had earlier warned INEC that it would not accept any result different from what was announced at the various polling units in the state.

One Emmanuel Peter Inobemhe, a Nigerian drug lord has been arrested in Kenya by the Kayole Police Division.
Inobemhe was deported from Kenya following a presidential order, after he was arrested alongside his accomplice, another Nigerian, Anthony Chinedu, in June 2013 for drug trafficking.

The narcotics trafficker, however, sneaked back to the country and was on Wednesday arrested in Kayole, Nairobi.

He was arrested at about 2pm, exactly three months after he returned to the country.

He was arrested along with a Kenyan woman, Virginia Wakini, who had just arrived from Tanzania via the Namanga border point, when police raided their apartment, Daily Nation is reporting.

The Police chief, Ali Nuno, who confirmed the arrest, said Inobemhe had been deported twice from Kenya over drug issues and for being in the country illegally.drug-lord1

Wondering how he got back to the country, the police boss said, “He says he used Namanga border on both occasions and that is what we want to know how and why.

“He had been deported in June 2013 before he sneaked back three months later. When he was arrested, he revealed that he came to the country from Tanzania via the Namanga border using different identification documents.

“The suspect was picked up from the Kayole Police Station by detectives from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit and the Anti-Narcotics Unit for interrogation,” Nuno stated.

I was spending N12million ransom when police nabbed me – Suspected kidnapper of Lagos, Ogun landlords

Source: Daily Post

A 38-year-old man, identified as James Kegbe aka JJ, has been arrested by the by the Inspector- General of Police, IGP, Special Intelligence Response Team, SIRT, in Ogun state, in connection with the abduction of four landlords at Oshorun Estate, Isheri, a border community between Lagos and Ogun states.
Kegbe, an indigene of Arogbo in Ese Odo area of the state, was arrested by the operatives at Ore in Odigbo Local Government Area on Wednesday.

It would be recalled that barely a week after the Police paraded pipeline vandals and kidnappers who fled Lagos following raid on their hideouts by operatives of the federal government’s Joint Military Task Force, armed men on September 17 kidnapped nine landlords at Isheri, Ogun State..

The landlords were having a routine exercise beside Lekki Gardens Estate when the gang struck.

The kidnappers had demanded N300 million ransom on each of them, totalling N1.2 billion, before they could be freed and they had reportedly called family members of their victims a day after they were kidnapped, to make the demand, threatening to harm the landlords if the condition was not met.

Recall also that one of the landlords kidnapped escaped from the kidnappers’ den about a week ago. he was said to have escaped from their midst because no ransom was paid.

Recent development, however, has it that the suspect, Kegbe, who was nabbed in connection with the kidnap, confessed to have collected the N12 million ransom from the family members before freeing the victims.

He was arrested where he went to spend his share of his ransom.

In his confession while being paraded before newsmen on Wednesday, Kegbe mentioned the names of some of his gang members.

“Trust, Julious, Victor, Prince, John and ‘Senior man’ were involved in the operation,” he added.

Meanwhile, the other members of the gang are still at large.

The IGP team, however, said efforts were ongoing to arrest and prosecute them accordingly.

Soludo asks Buhari to release Nnamdi Kanu because of 2019 elections

Source: Daily Post

Onetime governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, on Thursday, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.
The former CBN governor, while speaking during the presentation of a book entitled, ‘The Politics of Biafra and the Future of Nigeria,’ in Abuja, noted that Kanu was not popular until security agents arrested him last year.

Recalling how Chief Obafemi Awolowo was imprisoned for treason in the 1960s and how that endeared him to the Yoruba, Soludo said Kanu’s prolonged detention would make him a hero or a martyr, which would not stop the current agitation for Biafra.

Soludo warned that if the embattled Director of Radio Biafra was not released, his detention could be used as a campaign tool in 2019, just as the pardoning of Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu was used by Shehu Shagari to gain support in the 1980s.

The Department of States Services, DSS, had late last year arrested Kanu in Lagos.

Following his arrest, the Federal Government charged the embattled IPOB leader alongside two others, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi, for treasonable felony.

Women Rights Bill scales through second reading in Senate

Source: Daily Post Nigeria

A bill to entrench gender equality and elimination of all forms of discrimination against women scaled through second reading in the Senate on Thursday.
Sponsor of the bill , Senator Abiodun Olujimi, in her presentation, explained that Nigeria has not been fair to women in the appointment into offices, adding that they have been discriminated against as well.

She noted that the nation is a signatory to various United Nations charters on rights of women in Africa, but regretted that such rights have been breached.

She stated that if the bill scales through as envisaged, it would domesticate the various treaties to the effect that the 35% affirmation of women will bring them into the mainstream of governance.

“A Bill for an Act to incorporate and enforce certain provisions of the United Nations Convention on elimination of all forms of discrimination against women, the protocol to African Charter on Human Rights and People’s Rights of Women in Africa and other matters,” Olujimi submitted.

She also averred that Nigeria must be in the forefront championing the cause of Women’s rights in Africa, stressing that other nations of the world were waiting to see what African countries would do to utilise the potentials inherent in women.

In his contribution on the debate, Senator Olusola Adeyeye (APC) Osun, expressed support for the bill, explaining that Women were naturally about 50 per cent of men’s population, hence, any discrimination against them was a discrimination against God.

Adeyeye added that culture has oppressed women for long, while urging the Senate to ensure the protection of Women’s rights.

“Mr. President, I rise to enthusiastically support this bill, the worst form of discrimination is gender discrimination and the Senate must ensure their rights, even as their population was half of that of their male counterpart,” he noted.

Senators Oluremi Tinubu, Binta Mashi insisted that 35% affirmation of Women as captured in the constitution must be implemented, decrying that they were not adequately represented in elective and appointive offices.

“The constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended stipulates 35% affirmation and equal representation in the Federal Character, but as we speak that has not been done. ”

“Women are supposed to support men, but administratively they were supposed to work hand I hand with men,” Binta maintained.

Recall that following Senate’s earlier rejection of the bill seeking gender equality, sponsored by the Deputy Minority Whip of the Senate, Biodun Olujimi, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki had advised Nigerian women to re-introduce the Gender Equality Bill turned down by the Upper Chamber over alleged constitutional violations.

Source: Daily Post

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has re-arraigned a former governor of Abia State, Orji Kalu and two others on a 34-count amended charge bordering on fraud.

Kalu, his company, Slok Nigeria Limited and his former Commissioner for Finance, Jones Udeogo, were re-arraigned before Justice Anwuri Chikere of the Federal High Court, Abuja on Tuesday.

The duo, however, prayed that the court should await the pending appeal by Slok before the Supreme Court.

Chikere had turned down the defendants’ objection to their arraignment and ordered that the charge be read to them immediately.

Kalu and others were in the amended charge accused of diverting about N3.2 billion from the Abia government’s treasury during Kalu’s tenure as governor.

They all pleaded not guilty to the charges and Chikere allowed them on bail on the terms attached to the bail granted them on April 30, 2008.

They had eight years earlier been arraigned before Justice Adamu Bello, who is now retired.

The court adjourned the case till December 6 for commencement of trial.

Nigerian doctor punished in Canada for making sexual comments to female patient

Source: Daily Post

A Nigerian doctor practicing in Canada, identified as Adekunle Owolabi has been found guilty in a court in the north American country for inquiring of a female patient if she likes big or small penis.
Owolabi, a Labrador West physician had his medical licence suspended for six months and will be chaperoned when seeing a female patient when he returns to work after he was found guilty of four counts of professional misconduct.

He was reported to have asked a woman during a Pap test if she “liked big ones or small ones.”

According to Toronto Metro, Dr Owolabi was yesterday found guilty of four counts of professional misconduct by a three-person tribunal established by the provincial College of Physicians and Surgeons after a six-day hearing earlier this year.

According to the newspaper, four female patients had earlier accused the Nigeria-trained doctor of making sexual comments, and of inappropriate hugging and kissing.

Adekunle must take a course on appropriate doctor-patient boundaries before he would be allowed to resume his practice and was also ordered to pay $75,000 in costs related to the investigation and disciplinary process.

The Nigerian was found to have shown a lack of respect for the dignity and privacy of his patients, constituting professional misconduct in four of the separate complaints.

He has, however, been given 30 days to appeal the rule to the trial division of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador.

N600m fraud: EFCC arraigns former Naval Chief Jibrin, two Rear-Admirals, others

Source: Daily Post Nigeria

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arraigned a former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Usman O. Jibrin and two other Rear-Admirals, Bala Mshelia (rtd) and Shehu Ahmadu (rtd) before Justice A. S Umar of the FCT High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja.
They are currently facing a 4-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy.

Jibrin and the other two accused persons were docked alongside Habour Bay International Limited, a company said to have conspired with them to commit the fraud.

The naval chiefs allegedly bought a house worth N600 million while still in office from the account of Naval Engineering Services without the said purchase contract being captured in the budget, Vanguard reports.

It was also alleged that the documentation for transfer of ownership of the property was done such that a private company owned by the family of Vice Admiral Jubrin became the buyer.

The offence, according to the prosecution, is in contravention of Section 26 (1) (b) and punishable under Section 22 (4) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offence Act 2000.

The defendants pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.

In view of their plea, counsel to the EFCC, Abdullah Faruk, asked the court for a date for commencement of trial.

However, Y. C.‎ Maikyau, SAN, representing the first and fourth accused persons, through an oral application made pursuant to Section 36(5) of the Nigerian Constitution, sought for the bail of his clients.

Maikyau told the court that, the defendants had been enjoying administrative bail granted them by the EFCC and had never breached any of its terms.

Counsel representing second and third accused relied on the arguments canvassed by the learned silk in seeking bail for their clients.

In response, Faruk admitted being served the motion only in the morning and asked for time to enable him respond appropriately.

Justice Umar after listening to the submissions of counsel on both sides adjourned till Wednesday for hearing on the bail application.

NIGERIA WILL SCALE UP BILATERAL RELATIONS WITH INDIA -- PRESIDENT BUHARI

President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday said Nigeria will continue to expand its relationship with India in the areas of health, education, agriculture, technology and trade.

Receiving the Indian Vice President, Mohammad Hamid Ansari, at the State House, President Buhari said Nigeria had over the years benefited from the cooperation of the Asian country in trade and investment, agriculture, technology and the fight against terrorism.

The President welcomed the proposed investment of 5 billion US dollars in the Nigerian economy by the business delegation that accompanied the Vice President, while noting that India had already invested 10 billion US dollars in the economy.

President Buhari said Nigeria would emulate the Asian country’s agricultural model and capacity to feed its 1 billion population, and also export to other countries, describing the country as ``sustainable and prosperous’’.

The President noted that Nigeria would continue to support the reform of the United Nations Security Council, pointing out that it was unfair on the rest of the world for five countries to exercise power of ‘‘yes or no’’ in the UN.

In his remarks, the Indian Vice President said his country, which is the leading buyer of Nigeria’s crude oil, will increase its purchase of the commodity in addition to natural gas.

According to him, the relationship between Nigeria and India is near perfect as both countries ‘‘have nothing to quarrel about’’.

Seven and Ten commandments for husbands. Click to read more.teekayspeaks.blogspot.com

COMMANDMENT #7:

Keep thine eyes on thy own wife, not thy neighbors. (Prov 5:15-20; Job 31:1; Jer 5:8)
The Proverbs writer says it this way, "Drink water from your own cistern, And fresh water from your own well... Let her breasts satisfy you at all times; Be exhilarated always with her love." Prov 5:15-20
The ultimate sacrifice that a woman makes in child bearing is her figure. And the media is filled with 17 year old models who are not yet graduated high school and never done a hard days work in their life!
Job was wise when he said, "I Have made a covenant with my eyes; How then could I gaze at a virgin?"
Job 31:1 But we find that for many, the words of Jeremiah apply, "They were well-fed lusty horses, Each one neighing after his neighbor's wife." Jer 5:8

COMMANDMENT #8:

Thou shalt make every effort to see things from thy wife's point of view. (Gen 21:12)
Abraham is a man whose wife actually called him "lord". Sarah had an insight on a personal family matter and Abraham felt that she was wrong. "But God said to Abraham, "Do not be distressed because of the lad and your maid; whatever Sarah tells you, listen to her" Gen 21:12. Did you catch that? God told Abraham to obey his wife! He had not taken the time to see things from her point of view. Husbands and wives often live and think in different worlds. A wise husband will "listen" to his wife before God steps in and forces him to. Foolish husbands are arrogant "power-trippers" who know it all, refuse to listen to their wife and fall flat on their face.
"Live with her in an understanding way since she is a woman" 1 Pe 3:7

COMMANDMENT #9:

Thou shalt not fail to kiss thy wife every morning. (SOS 8:1)
Do you know why the "kiss and ride" commuter drop off area's are so popular? Just ask the wives who drop off their husbands for work. A recent TV program documented that the wives loved it. Here they had a "legitimate" reason to expect a kiss from their husband. Husband, when you leave the house for work, give her a kiss. When you come home, tell her you love her and give her another kiss.
Here, in the Song of Solomon, a future wife speaks of her love and desire for a kiss. "If I found you outdoors, I would kiss you; No one would despise me, either." Sos 8:1

COMMANDMENT #10:

Thou shalt not be stingy with thy wife when it comes to money. (Esther 5:3)
King Ahasuerus was married to Queen Esther. Look how generous he was with his wife! He said to her, "What is troubling you, Queen Esther? And what is your request? Even to half of the kingdom it will be given to you." Esther 5:3
Now in modern marriage law, many might wonder why this man is being praised for giving his wife the half that already belonged to her. However, back then this was an incredible offer of generosity! How many wives have to grovel and beg for a few dollars while he lavishly spends on himself.

Thou shalt remember to do all the little things for thy wife when you say you will. (Mt 5:37)
Jesus instructs all Christians, "let your statement be, 'Yes, yes' or 'No, no' and anything beyond these is of evil." Mt 5:37. Husbands, when you say you will do something for your wife, have the consideration to do it! Why should she justifiably nag you?
Your wife shouldn't have to get you to sign some binding oath to get you to make the bed, take out the garbage or take her out to dinner as you agreed. By doing what you say you will, you earn her trust in other areas.
Ever wonder why your wife reacts is a funny way?
Wife's Reaction

Husband's Action

When the wife feels insecure.

The husband is not being a spiritual leader.

When the wife takes matters into her own hands and assumes the leadership role.

The husband has allowed problems to continue and even get worse.

When the children rebel, the wife blames her husband.

The husband has not supported his wife in disciplining the children.

When the wife becomes resentful of financial pressures.

The husband has been spending extra money on things he enjoys.

When the wife feels inferior and jealous.

The husband praises or admires other women.

When the wife feels unable to totally give herself (body, soul and spirit) to her husband.

The husband only verbalizes his love when he wants a physical relationship.

When the wife feels frustration from not knowing how to please her husband.

The husband doesn't praise her for specific things.

When the wife turns to others who will listen to her true feelings.

The husband doesn't make the time to listen to his wife.

When the wife feels unprotected.

The husband has not been alert to the dangers which his wife faces.

When the wife feels inadequate in trying to meet her husband's physical needs.

The husband has been lusting after other women.

When a wife mentally gives up and loses all hope

The husband is prideful, never in the wrong, loses his temper to stay in control and never asks for forgiveness.

COMMANDMENT #5:

Thou shalt actively establish family discipline with thy wife's help. (2 Timothy 3:15; Ephesians 6:4; Deuteronomy 6:6-9)
Few would argue that the wife is the primary parent involved in the daily task of interacting with the children. But God has placed the father as the head of the household and that means that you must work hard along side of your wife in establishing family discipline. Many fathers leave

the majority of the work of raising the kids up to the wife. In child custody cases, the mother almost always get control of the kids, not because she is a better parent, but because she is the one who has been most involved with them. God commands fathers in Ephesians 6:4 "And, fathers, do not provoke your children to anger; but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord." You must be directly involved with your children. And then be careful not to "provoke" them to anger, because you have not really taken the time to understand exactly what happened and why. Some fathers alienate their children because they hastily dish out too harsh a punishment because they want to get back to their TV show or reading the paper. To these husbands, children are an interruption imposed upon him by the wife. Sad indeed.

COMMANDMENT #4:

Thou shalt hold thy wife's love by the same means that thou won it. (SOS 5:10-16)

Men persue their future bride with doting ceaseless attention. Once married the husband views marriage as a goal accomplished an on to other of life's challenges. He then gives his ceaseless doting attention to the job, the boys or anything but his wife. She on the other hand viewed marriage not as a goal met, but as the beginning of a relationship. She viewed his doting attention as a down payment of attentions to come. He viewed it as a means to merely get her to say "I DO".
This guy really WON the love of his future wife. He looked good because he groomed his appearance for her. He smelled good, because he regularly bathed and gargled. And he spoke words of "sweetness" to his love. But give many husbands a few years of marriage and they let their appearance and hygiene slip. But worst of all the sweetness towards their wife is gone. The wife proclaims to her friends, "Did he ever change after we said 'I do'!" Guys, if you want the nights to be hot, you best start warming up your wife in the day with words of kindness.
Buy your wife flowers on a regular basis.

Thou shalt frequently tell thy wife how important & valuable she is to thee. (Phil 2:3; Prov 31:10-11)

Selfishness is a marriage killer. For many men they think they are better than their wife simply because they are men. These men have made a serious judgment error. Husbands, tell your wife how important and valuable she is to you. Watch for the loving smile on her face when you do! The Proverbs writer said, "An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, And he will have no lack of gain." Prov 31:10-11 Notice how the wise husband trusts his wife's judgments and realizes how fortunate he is to have her.
God gave women the authority to make important decisions too:
They are workers in and managers of the home:
1 Ti 5:14: (Greek: oijkodespotevw "to rule/manage the house")

A wife's judgment can be better than her husbands: Nabal & Abigail: 1 Sam 25:3,17,25,32
Sleepless in Seattle (movie) Radio commentator asks man who was missing his dead wife, "Tell me about your wife". "How many hours do you have?" Immediately 3000 single women jammed the radio station switchboard trying to get his number for a date! Why Because he was sincerely praising his wife! Why did they want to date a complete stranger? Because the one thing they knew was that this man possessed the rare quality of praising his female companion. If he did it for his former wife...he would do it for them!
Judith Viorst: "Brevity may be the soul of wit, but not when someone's saying "I love you.,' When someone's saying "I love you," he always ought to give a lot of details: Why does he love you? How much does he love you? When and where did he first begin to love you? Favourable comparisons with all other women he ever loved are also welcome. And even though he insists it would take forever to count the ways in which he loves you, let him start counting." Redbook

A prosecution witness in the ongoing trial of Mr. Waripamo-Owei Dudafa, on Monday disclosed how he changed millions of dollars to naira for the accused.
Dudafa was the Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan.

He and two other persons are facing money laundering charges.

The witness, a Bureau De Change operator, Alhaji Murtala Bashiru Abubakar is the first to testify against Dudafa in the alleged N5.1bn fraud preferred against him and two others by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Dudafa and one Iwujuo Joseph Nna, also known as Taiwo Ebenezer and Olugbenga Isiah are standing trial before Justice Muhammed Idris of a Federal High Court in Lagos.

They were charged alongside four companies, namely: Seagate Property Development & Investment Limited, Ebiwise Resources Limited; Avalon Global Property Development Company Limited; Lutato Interservices Limited and Pluto Property and Investment Company Limited.

The Bureau De Change operator said he had known Dudafa since when he was Bayelsa State’s Commissioner for Local Government, during Timpreye Sylvia’s administration.

“He (Mr. Dudafa) usually sends two of his staff, Festus and Jahman, with dollars in order to change same and deposit the naira equivalent into specific accounts he provides via text messages,” Abubakar said.

The witness said he received those text messages from Mr. Dudafa on his Samsung mobile phone. The mobile phone and an Ownership Attestation Form were admitted and marked as Exhibits E and E1 respectively.

When asked whether all the instructions on how to disburse the money were received via text messages, Mr. Murtala replied in the affirmative but added that in the last transaction, Mr. Dudafa invited him to the Presidential Villa and handed to him $4 million cash.

The witness was confronted with exhibits A – B3 in which he identified all the transactions that transpired between himself and Mr. Dudafa from 2013 to 2015 both from his companies’ accounts and his personal account.

“I can confirm that all the dollars received during the transactions came from him,” Mr. Abubakar said.

During cross-examination of the witness, the defendants’ counsels, Gboyega Oyewale and Sunday Abumeri, requested for an adjournment.

The judge adjourned till September 27 for cross-examination.

BREAKING: Fulani herdsmen strike near 2face Idibia’s home town in Benue, behead one

Source: Daily Post

Suspected Fulani herdsmen have attacked Ogege community in the Okpale-Ingle ward of Edumoga, Okpokwu local government area of Benue State.
A yet-to-be-identified man was beheaded in the process.

Ogege is a neighboring village to ‎Amufu Ai-ejeba, the country home of popular singer, Tuface Idibia.

It was gathered that the heavily armed gunmen stormed the area, Monday evening butchering residents and in the process cut off the man’s head.

The development had since forced residents of the area to vacate their homes.

However, when DAILY POST contacted the state’s police spokesman, Moses Yamu on Tuesday, he said he was not aware of the attack.

“I am not aware of any attack in the area but I will call you back once I find out,” he said.

The development is coming barely two months after the local government witnessed a heavy bloodbath in Okpoga.

More to come…

FG PLANS TO SELL 5% OF ITS NLNG SHARES, INSISTS ON REPURCHASE OPTION

The Federal Government is planning to sell at least five per cent of its shares in the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas company, The PUNCH has learnt. Impeccable sources in the Presidency told our correspondent that the move had become necessary as part of efforts to revive the ailing economy. A top official, however, explained that the Federal Government had no plan to sell its shares in the NLNG outright. The Federal Government currently owns 49 per cent shares in the company, while private firms own the remaining 51 per cent. A Presidency source said, “The Federal Government is open to the possibility of selling down its 49 per cent ownership by five per cent or thereabouts.”
But the source said the decision had yet to be finalised.
The source added that as in other potential assets sales, there would be a repurchase option that would guarantee the Federal Government an opportunity to buy back such assets if circumstances changed anytime in the future.

Officials told our correspondent that the intention of the Federal Government was to raise between $10bn and $15bn from assets sale. This is said to have become imperative as the monthly foreign currency earnings of the country have dropped drastically to as low as about $300m in some months this year.
Besides, the government has been losing about one million barrels of crude oil per day to vandalism of oil and gas pipelines and installations. The Presidency source said the Federal Government had not made up its mind on all the assets it intended to sell but promised that the process would be transparent.
He added that some of the assets would be sold through the Nigerian Stock Exchange. The source added, “Some of the intended sales could be in form of time-bound leases, advance renewal payments on leasing licences and concessions, which will attract buoyant signature fees.

“If we even want to sell certain assets, while our target is to get foreign currencies, specifically dollars, the option will also be opened to Nigerians at some point to buy limited shares through the Nigerian Stock Exchange.”
He revealed that a concession deal was almost completed already.
He added, “We are entering into some concessions like that of the East-West lines of the Nigerian Railways. General Electric will be the concessionaire, and for which the global giant will invest $2bn in the Nigerian economy, including for the refurbishment of the single-gauge lane of the lines that have been largely left idle for years.
“GE, under the deal, is expected to hire back some of the laid-off staff of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, and also open a Transport University in Nigeria, while building and assembling train coaches here in Nigeria.
“Under the deal, the government will also receive signature fees in foreign currencies as it would in other assets that will be subjected to concession.
“The important thing to keep in mind is that the sale of some of the assets is an option to raise the much needed dollars at a critical time for the Nigerian economy.”

You don’t have to wait for an apology to forgive.
by MARC CHERNOFF

Life gets much easier when you learn to accept all the apologies you never got. The key is to be thankful for every experience – positive or negative. It’s taking a step back and saying, “Thank you for the lesson.” It’s realizing that

grudges from the past are a perfect waste of today’s happiness, and that holding one is like letting unwanted company live rent free in your head.

Forgiveness is a promise – one you want to keep. When you forgive someone you are making a promise not to hold the unchangeable past against your present self. It has nothing to do with freeing a criminal of his or her crime, and everything to do with freeing yourself of the burden of being an eternal victim.

HOW AND WHY WE GOT INTO TROUBLE, PRESIDENT BUHARI BRIEFS NIGERIAN PROFESSIONALS IN AMERICA

STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE

HOW AND WHY WE GOT INTO TROUBLE, PRESIDENT BUHARI BRIEFS NIGERIAN PROFESSIONALS IN AMERICA

They converged from different parts of the United States of America, top rate professionals all, Nigerians whom Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Diaspora Matters and International Relations, described as "15 of the best people God ever created."

The professionals were in New York to meet with the Nigerian President. Top flight aeronautics engineers, physicians, I.T experts, a Judge, a top policewoman, entrepreneurs, an Import Specialist at Customs and Border Protection, professors, two straight A students, and many others.

The parley provided President Buhari opportunity to bring them up to speed on how and why Nigeria got into trouble, with an assurance that with all hands on deck, including the best brains in the Diaspora, the country would bounce back in the shortest possible time.

"I am very pleased with this meeting," President Buhari stated. "Wherever you go in the world, you find highly competent and outstanding Nigerians. They not only make great impact on their host countries and communities, their financial remittances back home also help our economy, particularly at a time like this, when things are down.

"We got into trouble as a country, because we did not save for the rainy day. For example, between 1999 and 2015, when we produced an average of 2.1 million barrels of oil per day, and oil prices stood at an average of $100 per barrel, we did not save, neither did we develop infrastructure. Suddenly, when we came in 2015, oil prices fell to about 30 dollars per barrel.
“I asked; where are the savings? There were none. Where are the railways? The roads? Power? None. I further asked; what did we do with billions of dollars that we made over the years? They said we bought food. Food with billions of dollars? I did not believe, and still do not believe.

“In most parts of Nigeria, we eat what we grow. People in the South eat tubers, those in the North eat grains, which they plant, and those constitute over 60 per cent of what we eat. So, where did the billions of dollars go? We did a lot of damage to ourselves by not developing infrastructure when we had the money.
"Talking of our military, they earned respect serving in places like Burma, Zaire, Sudan, Liberia, Sierra-Leone, and then, suddenly, that same military could no longer secure 14 out of 774 local governments in the country. Insurgents had seized them, calling them some sort of caliphate, and planting their flags there; till we came, and scattered them.

"We raised the morale of our military, changed the leadership, re-equipped and retrained them; USA, Britain, and some other countries helped us, and today, the pride of our military is restored.

"Boko Haram ran riot, killing innocent people in churches, mosques, markets, schools, motor parks, and so on. And they would then shout Allahu Akbar. But if they truly knew Allah, they would not do such evil. Neither Islam, nor any other religion I know of, advocates hurting the innocent. But they shed innocent blood, killed people in their thousands. Now, we have dealt with that insurgency, and subverted their recruitment base.

"Those who stole Nigeria dry are not happy. They recruited the militants against us in the Niger Delta, and began to sabotage oil infrastructure. We lose millions of barrels per day, at a time when every dollar we can earn, counts. It is a disgrace that a minimum of 27 states, out of 36 that we have in Nigeria, can't pay salaries.

"But I prayed so hard for God to make me President. I ran in 2003, 2007, 2011, and in 2015, He did. And see what I met on ground. But I can't complain, since I prayed for the job. In the military, I rose from 2nd Lieutenant to Major-General. I was military governor in 1975 over a state that is now six states. I was head of state, got detained for three years, and headed the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF), which had N53 billion of that time in Nigerian banks.
“God has been very good to me, so I can't complain. If I feel hurt by anybody, I ask God to help me forgive. He has done so much for me.

"After 16 years of a different party in government, no party will come and have things easy. It's human. We need quality hands to run Nigeria, and we will utilize them. I will like to welcome you home when it's time. But I'll like you to be ready."

All the Nigerian professionals pledged to contribute their quota towards re-launching their fatherland to a new dawn.

Why Does Love Fade in Marriage? Click here to read more Teekayspeaks.blogspot.com

We eat every day. We invest in our careers and businesses every day. We pay attention to skincare every day. Do we breathe fresh love into our marriages every day, or we just expect the marriage to run itself, on auto-pilot?

Return to your first acts of love and watch love come alive again in your marriage.
Joy Ehonwa quote

You’ve begun to feel unhappy in your marriage. You and your spouse haven’t been spending time together like you used to. There’s distance between the two of you, and your interactions have cooled. As blissfully happy as you were when you got married, you can’t imagine how you got to this point.
This is supposed to be your soulmate, right? So what is going on? Do you even know this person any more?
Long before we ever get married, we imagine that once we’re in a marriage with our soulmate, that person will meet our every need. But that’s not true because even after we say our vows, we’re still the same people with the same baggage and the same emotional hard-wiring.
Even though you love your spouse deeply, you will still feel unhappy and alone sometimes. This is normal; it’s not an indicator that something has gone wrong with your marriage..this point.
This is supposed to be your soulmate, right? So what is going on? Do you even know this person any more?

Symbis- 728X90
There will be times when outside stressors invade your marriage and dampen your happiness. There will also be times when the two of you will have to invest extra energy into one another in order to find your footing again.
Don’t become fearful; with hard work and perseverance, you and your spouse will be able to overcome the unhappy times you face together. Here are a few tips to help you get through.
1. GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER AGAIN
When you’re dating, you spend a lot of time getting to know each other. After you’ve been married for several years, you think you still know one another–but your tastes change over time, and your old favorites aren’t your new favorites any more.
Being married is a continual process of getting to know your spouse again and again over the course of your relationship.
Taking time to intentionally learn the things that are significant to your spouse will stave off boredom. You can easily become disinterested in someone who you think you know, and who you believe really hasn’t changed since you got married. If you put that effort into constantly learning about your spouse, you’ll see that he or she will keep you fascinated.
Husbands, take note: we learned of a study done by a great researcher on marriage, and what makes the happiest couples happy. One corollary he discovered was how well the husband knew his wife. (Because women tend to tune into little details, there wasn’t much of a fluctuation for them.)
Basically, how well husbands are tuned into their wives’ favorites (movie, color, flower, perfume–whatever things are most significant to them) directly affects the level of satisfaction in the relationship.
A great way to get re-acquainted with each other is to work through Love Talk Starters. The book contains 275 questions to spark conversation and help you learn more about one another.
Invest some time to get to know each other better, and watch the level of happiness and fulfillment in your marriage grow.
2. BE GENEROUS WITH ONE ANOTHER
It’s important to cultivate a spirit of generosity toward your spouse. In fact, it’s the best marriage insurance you can invest in.
Being generous has little to do with money; focusing extra time and effort on your spouse will make a world of difference in your marriage.
Little things count BIG. Offer your husband or wife little comforts, tokens of affection, extra help, or special attention. If your wife loves to have her back massaged, offer that to her–don’t wait for her to ask. Or if your husband likes to have coffee before he leaves for work in the morning, prepare it for him, and maybe throw in something special, like a flavoring or a creamer he enjoys.
Be careful not to keep score, though. Being petty and keeping tabs is definitely not the way to draw happiness back into your marriage.
When it comes to paying extra attention to your spouse, go above and beyond to display generosity and unselfishness. The impression you’ll leave on him or her will be hard to ignore.
3. SPEND MORE TIME TOGETHER
One great way to bring happiness back into your relationship is to make more time for each other–valuable, energized time, not the leftovers after you’re already exhausted.
The two of you need time to hang out together, when you can be playful and affectionate with each other. You can’t do that when you’re focused on kids or your to-do list.
It’s easy to get stuck and comfortable in patterns that starve your marriage of this special one-on-one time, but it’s imperative that you find ways to ignite one another’s desire for that companionship.
Be fully present with each other as you create space in each day where you can slow down together. These moments are essential to the well-being of your marriage.
Share your dreams; inspire each other. What are some things you dream about doing together as a couple? Perhaps you can plan a special vacation that signifies a new day in your relationship.
If you’re having trouble finding the time to set aside for one another, we suggest that you take our very short time assessment. It will help you identify your (and your spouse’s) major time style, and will give you insight to one another’s approach to time. This will set you on the right path to creating moments for just the two of you.

DON’T BE A VICTIM
When the happiness in a marriage fades over time, the rarely rests on one spouse. And when you find yourself in this situation, it’s incredibly easy to point the finger at your husband or wife, mentally listing, re-listing, and memorizing the faults and behaviors that you believe are to blame.
Any time you’re facing an ongoing or long-term unhappiness issue in your relationship, it’s your responsibility to take a look at your life and question what role you may have in your situation.

NDLEA arrests two drug traffickers at Lagos airport

NDLEA arrests two drug traffickers at Lagos airport

Source: Daily Post

Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, in Lagos State have arrested two male drug traffickers identified as 44-year-old Okonkwo Francis Okechukwu, and Ifedigbo Chinedu Lucky, 37, for being in possession of 700 grams of cocaine at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport.
The suspects were arrested during the inward screening of passengers on a Royal Air Maroc flight from Sao Paulo, Brazil through Casablanca, Morocco.

In order to evade arrest, the suspects inserted seven wraps of cocaine each weighing 350 grams into their alimentary canals.

One of the traffickers, Okechukwu, said to be married with two kids told reporters at the airport that he was forced into the illicit business by frustration, adding that his sponsors promised him N500 thousand.

According to him, “I was stranded in Brazil, where I worked as a waiter in a restaurant for two years.

“Life was awful as I was struggling daily just to feed myself. When I was contacted to smuggle cocaine to Nigeria, I was very happy because it was an opportunity to return home.

“My sponsor also promised to pay me half a million Naira with which I had planned to start a business.”

Also the second suspect, Lucky who is single and hails from Anambra state, said he had also spent two years in Brazil, while describing his arrest as ill-luck.

“I am a businessman. I import female shoes from Brazil since 2014. This arrest is just bad luck for me because I was already calculating my profit from the deal.”

Mark Zuckerberg pledges $3bn to 'rid the world of all disease. Click here to read more

Marion Dakers AP
22 SEPTEMBER 2016 •

Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan have vowed to spend $3bn over the next decade to try and cure all diseases.

The Facebook founder and his wife, who pledged to give away 99pc of their wealth to good causes following the birth of their daughter last year, said the money would be used to assist scientific work and build new research tools.

The goal, which they are unlikely to live to see accomplished, is to "cure, prevent or manage all disease" in the next 80 or so years.

"So if you even just assume that we'll be able to continue to make progress on that same trajectory, then that implies that by the end of this century we will have been able to solve most of these types of things," Mr Zuckerberg said in an interview with Associated Press.

He and Ms Chan, who has worked as a paediatrician, have spent the past two years speaking to scientists and other experts to plan the endeavour. He emphasised "that this isn't something where we just read a book and decided we're going to do.

"We spend 50 times more on health care treating people who are sick than we spend on science research (to cure) diseases so that people don't get sick in the first place," Mr Zuckerberg said. He added that the approach reflects a belief that "people are always going to suffer from disease so therefore we should focus on treating people who are sick."

The Facebook founder is worth about $56bn, thanks to shares in his own company. Mr Zuckerberg has asked other shareholders to allow him to give away his stock without losing control of the company.

Their announcement comes a day after Microsoft made a pledge to “solve the problem of cancer” within a decade by reprogramming diseased cells.

CHIBOK GIRLS: PRESIDENT BUHARI INVITES U.N AS NEGOTIATOR

As a show of commitment to swapping the abducted schoolgirls from Chibok with Boko Haram fighters in custody, President Muhammadu Buhari has told the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, that Nigeria would welcome intermediaries from the global body.
Speaking during a bilateral meeting with the UN scribe at the sidelines of the 71st UN General Assembly in New York, President Buhari said the Nigerian government was willing to bend over backwards, to get the Chibok girls released from captivity.
"The challenge is in getting credible and bona fide leadership of Boko Haram to discuss with," the President said, adding that, "The split in the insurgent group is not helping matters. Government had reached out, ready to negotiate, but it became difficult to identify credible leaders. We will welcome intermediaries such as UN outfits, to step in.”
The President reiterated that the teachings of Boko Haram were far from being Islamic, as neither Islam, nor any other religion, advocates hurting the weak and innocent.
"The fact that they kill men, women, children, and other people wantonly, and shout Allahu Akbar (God is great) shows that they do not know that Allah at all. If they did, they would not shed innocent blood," President Buhari said.
He thanked Ban Ki-moon for the moral and material support given to Nigeria, which has enabled the country surmount many of the challenges facing her.
In his response, the UN Secretary General congratulated President Buhari on the anti-corruption war, declaring: “You are highly respected by world leaders, including myself. Your persona has given your country a positive image.”
He said the UN recognized the achievements of the Buhari administration against Boko Haram, urging that human rights be upheld always to prevent a repeat of the scenario being witnessed in Syria.
Ban Ki-moon also thanked the Nigerian leader for his commitment to issues on climate change, adding that the government should "own the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)," for the good of its citizens.

NIGERIA SOON TO JOIN MOST ATTRACTIVE INVESTMENT DESTINATIONS IN THE WORLD – PRESIDENT BUHARI

NIGERIA SOON TO JOIN MOST ATTRACTIVE INVESTMENT DESTINATIONS IN THE WORLD –
PRESIDENT BUHARI

President Muhammadu Buhari has assured potential investors that Nigeria would soon be one of the most attractive places to invest as his administration has embarked on significant economic reforms to realize that goal.
The President gave this assurance to a large gathering of political and business leaders from the United States, Africa and other regions of the world at the Second United States-Africa Business Forum in the New York, on Wednesday, organized by the United States Department of Commerce and Bloomberg Philanthropies.
The Nigerian leader said that the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council headed by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, will soon come out with wide-ranging business environment reforms on ports, visa-on arrival, improving the speed and efficiency of land titling and business registration. Some fiscal incentives he noted, include, up to 5 years tax holiday for activities classified as “pioneer;” tax-free operations; no restrictions on expatriate quotas in Free Trade Zones; and a low VAT regime of 5 per cent.
“We intend to make Nigeria one of the most attractive places to do business,” he declared, even as he noted that Nigeria remains the number one investment destination in Africa.
President Buhari added that his administration will continue to strengthen government institutions in order to address the concerns of investors and ease investments in the Nigerian economy.
“We are weaning ourselves from a historical dependence on crude oil, diversifying our economy, and putting it on the path of sustainable and inclusive growth. To this end, we have embarked on policies aimed at establishing an open, rules-based and market-oriented economy. We will continue to actively engage with the private sector at the highest levels to listen to your concerns and to assure you of our commitment to creating enabling policies in which your businesses can survive and thrive,” President Buhari said.
He urged participants to “take advantage of this Forum to establish and strengthen business relationships, share valuable experience and collaborate for mutual benefits.”
President Buhari, while stressing that enormous potential exists for foreign investment and for the local economy, listed sectors which have barely been exploited to include Nigeria’s 180-million population and abundance of labour; arable land; forest waters; oil and gas; solid minerals; livestock and huge tourist potential.
According to him, “These are no doubt challenging times for the Nigerian economy. But let me use this opportunity to boldly affirm our conviction that there is no crisis without an accompanying opportunity. In our case, we see Nigeria’s ongoing economic challenges – occasioned mainly by the fall in oil prices – as an opportunity to set the economy firmly on the path of true diversification, sustainable economic growth and shared prosperity.”
The President said that the reform measures taken by his administration since inception in 2015 have started yielding good fruits especially in the areas of security, anti-corruption and revamping the economy.
He said the priority investment sectors for his administration now are improving infrastructure, industrial productivity, agriculture, mining and digital economy where “young Nigerians are increasingly demonstrating that they have the talent and the passion to leverage.”
On United States-Nigeria business relations, he announced the commencement of the US-Nigeria Commercial and Investment Dialogue with a focus on the infrastructure, agriculture, digital economy, investment and regulatory reform to be jointly led by the Nigerian Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment and his US counterpart.
President Buhari said after this Business Forum, he looked forward to increased trade and investment flows between Nigeria and the United States.
